Today’s Tip: Show me your plan!

Bob Gaudreau (R) advises Executive Director Bill Hoffman at Hillsborough County Schools Education Foundation Tournament.(This is a first in a series on charity golf tournament tips from a Professional)
OK your charity/service group/chamber of commerce/association/youth league organization/dance squad/school activity club/booster club/retirement community activity league etc., etc., etc., has decided to stage a golf tournament. You want to raise some needed money for your group’s use or to donate for a worthwhile cause in the community!

You have exactly one minute to ask a Golf Tournament Manager and Sponsorship Consultant like me for FREE advice as to the steps to run a successful golf tournament fund raiser, but you only have one minute of my time to catch my attention and convince me to help you... I then ask you to SHOW ME YOUR WRITTEN PLAN... do you have one????

What I find with most charity related Golf Tournaments is that we have too few business people in charge of the PLAN! Hence, there is no written plan to follow and as we all know in business if you have no plan, you have no business running a golf tournament! I have met some of the finest people who volunteer their time for these causes with NO PAY, just the interest in helping others and for that reason I say CONGRATULATIONS to you for your efforts! I can tell you if I had a dollar for every hour of volunteer work that I have done in my 55 years on this earth, I would be a Millionaire today and retired, and for that I’m very proud! If you're in the same "ageing/tired/volunteer club" then take my advice... do not waste your time volunteering, if that person in charge has no written PLAN! Because, the time you & I've wasted as volunteers sitting in unproductive golf & event planning meetings, that have no PLAN, have been priceless hours that we could have devoted to writing a best selling book on this topic!

Do you know that the charity golf industry is a $3.2 Billion dollar industry today? There will be 2,000 plus charity golf tournaments in the Tampa Bay market in 2008, and you’re just one of them! Every tournament faces the same problems: recruiting players, sponsors, and saving on expenses to make a profit! The average amount of net revenue each charity golf tournament brings in every year in the US, when run without a Tournament Professional such as myself with a PLAN, is $5,000.00. That net figure doubles when you have a professional tournament director or businessman with a tournament background in charge... and a PLAN!

"Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success."
