The Eagles Golf Club, under the direction of Golf Professionals Paul Holden and Tom Shea, has launched Tri-County Junior Golf. Tri-County Junior Golf will be available to all junior golfers, ages 7-18, throughout Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas Counties. Tri-County Junior Golf will run a Junior Golf Instructional League and 10 weeks of summer camp programming. The Eagles Golf Club is a 36-hole championship facility, complete with practice areas and clubhouse amenities.

The Instructional League will start with a parent meeting and player evaluation on both Saturday March 8 and Sunday March 9. Three meeting/evaluation times will be available on both days at 12 noon, 2pm and 4pm.

The Instructional League will place children according to yardage consistency: meaning children will be placed into yardage fl ights based on the distance they hit a golf ball on a regular basis, playing 3-6-9 hole matches on the golf course from their respective tees. Weekly practice will be held and a weekly match will be played in a team setting. Everyone will play and only the lowest 4-6 scores will be used to fi gure team totals. Depending on the number of teams fi elded, they will play a regular season and then a playoff season to determine a championship team.

The Tri-County Junior Golf Summer Camp Program will run 10 weeks of camp starting June 9 through August 15, Monday through Friday, 9am- 12pm. The camps will be instructional, with an emphasis on getting junior golfers on the course as soon as possible. “Learn The Game...On The Course” will be the motto of Tri-County Junior Golf.

“Tri-County Junior Golf is creating a year-round opportunity for kids to learn the game and get on the course on a weekly basis”, states Eagles Golf Club Head Golf Professional Paul Holden. “We have a 36-hole facility that allows us this opportunity that most other golf courses can’t offer.”

“We want to develop a program that allows kids to grow into players, whether it is just for fun or for competition”, says PGA Teaching Professional Tom Shea. “There are a lot of playing opportunities for the individual locally, regionally and nationally. However, there are not a lot of developmental situations that work to get the kids to the actual golf course. The combination of constant instruction combined with playing opportunities is where Paul and I feel that Tri-County Junior Golf willallow kids to play while learning to enjoy the game.”
