The Dunedin Country Club, which is celebrating over 80 years of rich history and tradition, will feature new, state-of-the-art greens later this year. The membership vote was overwhelming to have Mini Verde Ultradwarf grass installed on all 18 gre ns plus the putting green.“This grass was highly recommended to us by the USGA and the TPC Sawgrass, which just installed the same grass on its greens for the Players Championship,” said Dunedin Head Professional John Falcone. The process will start in early May. The top six inches of each green will be stripped. After replacing each green with a USGA green mix, the greens will be sprigged with Mini Verdi. Weather permitting, the process will take approximately twelve weeks. The course will remain open with temporary greens throughout the process. Mini Verde grows in a dark green and can be mown low for fast speeds. It does not require overseeding so “transition periods” will be a thing of the past. “We will be true to the original contours of the greens as designed by famed architect Donald Ross,” said Superintendent Allen Brissendon who will oversee the project. “In some cases, green contours will be softened to take increased green speeds into consideration.” |
