Is Your Golf Game Inconsistent? |

Are Fat Shots, Thin Shots, Hooks and Slices Ruining Your Game?By Jeff Haney, PGA Teaching Professional If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. In most cases the problem is a golf swing that has too much lower body movement! When average golfers start with their weight 50/50 and then shift their weight more to the right on the backswing and then to the left on the downswng, they tend to have problems. The problem is they either don’t time the weight shift correctly or they make too much of a weight shift. Then you are told you are swaying or that you are falling back during the downswing. Both of these faults will cause inconsistency.
A simple correction is to set up more on the right side for a right
handed golfer. Try setting your weight about 70 percent on your right
instep with your head slightly behind the ball. Now try to hold your
weight steady as you make your backswing. Then start your downswing by
shifting your weight to your left foot by pushing from your right
instep and then complete your swing. With a little less lower body
movement you can still have an effective weight shift and start to
strike the ball more consistently. Jeff Haney is a PGA Teaching Professional at Countryside Golf Center in Countryside. If you have a question about this article or would like to schedule a lesson with Jeff, call (727) 365-7235. |
