If you are looking to sharpen your golf game, look no further than The Claw at USF. Home to the nationally-ranked University of South Florida golf teams, the layout is demanding yet fair for players of all skill levels.

The Claw’s rating of 74.2 is exceptionally high for a par-71. The slope is an equally impressive 132. Remember, this course was built tough for college golf.

The course is named for its signature 14th hole. It became The Claw years ago when a player lamented that the course just “reached out and grabbed my ball like a claw”.

The Claw winds through majestic oaks, towering cypress and tall pines. It’s long, narrow fairways are surrounded by pristine preservation land, not the endless tract housing found on today’s real estate-driven layouts. Home to alligators, deer, spoonbills and a multitude of other wildlife, the course feels like you’re playing in a nature preserve.

In 2004, the course underwent major renovations. Many greens were enlarged and all new putting surfaces were installed. The new TifDwarf Bermudagrass is a hybrid turf known for its speed.
